It’s All About The Small Tanks

September newsletterIt’s the season where we go back to school and back to work, so this month we want to focus on the small tanks, the ones that will spice up a desk in your dorm room or office. We’ve got a great selection of nano tanks, some great items to keep your bettas healthy and happy during the colder months, and a Fish of the Month that will fit in small reef tanks.

The Fluval Spec
fluval specNow that vacations are done, you are either stuck back in the office or at school. Spice up your work space with the Fluval Spec, which comes in sizes of 2 gallons, 2.6 gallons, and 5 gallons. Each tank comes with a built in filter and LED light, and the 2.6 and 5 gallon tanks also have a moonlight setting. This great little tank can be used for fresh or saltwater set ups. Want to see one in action? Stop by the store- we love this tank so much we set up two!
Items for your betta

bettaheaterWith fall comes colder weather, which could make your betta feel a little under the weather. Keep him warm with a slim heater for small tanks and bowls. It can be completely submerged and is safe for both glass and acrylic tanks. This heather is perfect for tanks that are 2-5 gallons. bettareviveWith the changing of the seasons, these tropical fish are more likely to catch diseases like ich. We recommend you keep Betta Revive on hand to treat your Betta. This medicine is perfect as a preventative and a treatment for many bacterial and fungal infections, as well as parasites. And it is portioned out for small tanks, making it easy to dose.

plantsFish of the month: Scooter Blenny

A Pacific- Dwelling fish, the scooter blenny gets its name from the way it “scoots” across the sand in search of food. Unlike other dragonets, Scooter Blennies can be kept in groups, as long as they are introduced at the same time and have a ratio of 2 females per one male. Scooter blennies sift through the sand, and only grow to about 2 inches, making them ideal for smaller reef aquariums.
